The Interlibary Loan (ILL) service allows you to request items that are not owned by Polytechnique's Library. You can request a printed book, an article or a book chapter from an ebook. The ILL staff will search catalogs of other libraries in the Province, in Canada and abroad in order to locate the item and borrow it for you in a timely manner.
To get a physical document available in a Québec university library, we suggest that you use the Network loan service.
Click on the title of the document you need in Sofia.
Select the option Request via Interlibrary Loan
Click on « Here » and complete your authentification
Click on Sign In at the top right corner of the page and then on My Account.
In My Account, go to Requests
Click on Create Request.
Fill in the form for the item you need by giving us all the information you have (Title, Author, ISBN, etc.)
Select École Polytechnique under Pickup Location
Click on Submit.
The ILL service cannot borrow ebooks from other libraries. We can request a chapter from an ebook. The chapter cannot exceed 20% of the total number of pages in the book, this condition being what the copyright law permits.
When making your request
If you know the ISBN or ISSN number of your book or article, please include it in the request form. This information will speed the processing of your request. Our ILL tool will be able to search automatically for your document with the help of this number. You could then receive your electronic document even when the library is closed.
ILL requests are usually free. If the lending Library charges us fees, Polytechnique's Library will cover the first 15 $ CAD. If the estimated total cost for the request is above that amount, our ILL staff will communicate with you first to get your permission to proceed. You will then need to pay the difference above 15 $.
Printed documents can take from one day to two weeks to be delivered at the Library. You can expect faster delivery for items coming from local libraries (Quebec and Canada) than for items coming from the US or from abroad. If a document you requested in electronic format is not available, we will verify with you first if a printed copy will suit your needs.
Once your document arrives at the library
You will receive an email notification once your document is available for pick up. If you do not not pick up your ILL within two weeks, we will ship back the document to the lending library.
Borrowed items can be recalled from the lending library. If you do receive a recall, you will need to return the document quickly, before the due date.
