Frequently Asked Questions

Polytechnique students and staff can borrow laptops to use in the Library for 4 hours, 24 hours or 72 hours. MS Office, Antidote (a grammar checker and writing assistant in French and English), and the bibliographic management tool EndNote are installed on these computers.

The members of the Polytechnique community can use the Library workstations by signing in with their ID and password. The walk-in users can request a guest account at the Circulation Desk to be able to use the workstations. This account will be valid for the day.

You can borrow and reserve books with your Polytechnique ID card (student card). Consult the web Borrowing page for information on check out terms and conditions.

Yes, it is possible to reserve a document that is already checked out. For more informations on how to reserve a document, consult our Borrowing guide.

Your Library account allows you to see what items you have checked out, renew the documents you borrowed, and reserve other documents.

Some instructors set aside certain mandatory or recommended materials in the Course Reserves, located behind the Circulation Desk. For a list of these documents, enter the course code or name in the Sofia discovery tool, under the Course reserves tab. If you do not know the acronym or the name of your course, find it in Répertoire des cours et horaires (in French only).

To borrow a document on reserve, show your Polytechnique ID card at the Circulation Desk and ask for the document by mentioning its call number. See also our Borrowing guide.

The documents required for research and teaching that are not part of the Library collection can be obtained by Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Consult the guide for details concerning registration, access, and document requests.

Yes. You can use the printers and scanners in the Room L-7613, located on the Library first floor. See the price list.
