EndNote, BibTeX, Zotero: Managing Your References

Why Mendeley?

Mendeley is an academic social network and free bibligraphic management software for Windows, MacOS, and Linux. It is compatible with Word 2016, LibreOffice, and BibTeX. Free apps for iPhone, iPod, and iPad are available.

A user must create an account to download the software and to install the Web Importer to import references from bibliographic databases and other sources. The Premium storage packages are not free, yet the free plan gives each user 2GB on the Mendeley servers, where bibliographic data is stored. A user is allowed to create copies of his library on his computer.

Mendeley is very effective to drag and drop PDF links in its window in order to import them.

To collaborate and communicate with other researchers, a user can create a network and join or follow public or private groups. He can also create an academic profile to disseminate his research.

Moreover, Mendeley suggests related papers according to the document consulted.

Styles

To format citations and bibliographies, Mendeley, Zotero, and Papers use the Citation Style Language (CSL), an XML-based language.

IMPORTANT: The Library does not develop French versions of the APA style for Mendeley. See the guide Logiciels de gestion bibliographique for APA styles in French available in the Zotero Style Repository.
