AnyStyle.io allows you to generate references in .bib format from plain text. You will then need to correct any errors in Zotero. For a detailed procedure, see the following page:
Note that this method is recommended for long bibliographies (for example, the bibliography of a thesis). If you only need to import a few references with DOIs or ISBNs, the best option is to use automatic importation with a unique number .
If you prefer to run apps in dark mode, there's a setting that lets you change Zotero's appearance. This mode also works with Zotero's document reader.
ZoteroPreview is an extension, i.e. a software option that requires a separate download.
This free tool enables you to view the reference formatted in the style of your choice and easily copy-paste it.
To use it, start by downloading the latest version of the ZoteroPreview.xpi file from Github. If the file doesn't download, try using another browser.
After downloading, perform the following steps in Zotero:
Tools → Extensions → Gear icon → Install Plugin from File → Choose .xpi file from download list
After installation, the new Preview tab makes it easy to check whether all the necessary information is present to quote in the desired style. You can also copy the complete reference or the reference in the text for pasting (e.g. into a presentation).
To change the extension's settings, choose Edit → Settings → ZoteroPreview. From here, you can change the style displayed by the extension, the position of ZoteroPreview in the Info pane. You can also change the font size of this section.
Once the import is complete and before creating bibliographies, you need to check that each piece of information is accurate, complete and correctly written for each added reference. To do this, review each field in the Info section on the right side of the Zotero window.
For more information, consult the relevant sections in the Citation Styles tab in this guide.
If the URL field is filled in, it should appear in the reference. If this is not the case, go to Zotero Settings, in the Cite tab, and check the "Include URL for paper references" box, then close and reopen Zotero.
ZoteroBib is a website that lets you quickly generate references from a URL, DOI or ISBN.
Of course, you should always check the reference before using it in your work! The tool works best with DOIs (scientific articles) or books (ISBNs). It works less well with URLs.
